About the Event
Ride with your friends to compete on 15 obstacles throughout Rusty's Beautiful Ranch close to Bastrop. Each obstacle (mostly natural) will be 15 points each for a total of 150 points. Prizes, money and gift cards will be awarded to top 6 places in each division. Divisions are youth, Novice, Intermediate, and Open. This is the first ride of the year. Year end buckles and prizes will be given for each division December 6, 2020 at Rockin' RJ Arena in Stephenville.
Obstacles will be mostly natural since Rusty's place is perfect for that. We will have 5 in the arena. The obstacles may be a gate (opening and closing), judged on a "gait" - walk, trot, lope. Over poles, sidepasses, turning on the forefront or back, small jumps (if we have them, but not a fan), picking up something and carrying to a point, everything is safe and consistent with what you may encounter on a real trail ride.
How are you judged? Hands quiet, quietness of the horse, your confidence, horses' confidence, using proper leg movements for proper movement of horse, listening to the judge explain the obstacle, the relationship with you and the horse. There are many points in trail riding. Trail riding should be relaxed and the horse should enjoy his job of manueving through obstacles with your proper guidance.
This is a great way for beginners to start competiting. It's relaxed, easy, and always fun at a CHAPS ride.
